The Sweet Savor of Progress
Today, we had one of those really heavy rainfalls that come with a lot of breeze and is intent on destroying things. Luckily, there was no collateral damage and after about an hour, it all ceased. Given the intensity of the rain and the wind, it blew water into the kitchen and had to be cleaned up. Here we are all pitching in and my mum reminds us of the fact that had it been some years ago, we would have had buckets lined up to collect the rain water.
You see, we didn't always have running water at home. Those periods when electricity was almost non-existent were very trying as our neighbor would decide not to sell water to anyone, maybe because her generator was incapable of pumping water or she was just trying to conserve her water, who knows? Those times we had to rely on rain water or be at the mercy of Nigerian electricity which is of course very unreliable.
I remember a particular time like that when there was serious power outage, me that actively hates rain started praying for rain, not just simple rain but this heavy kind like today's own just so that all the containers would be full of water, lol. Ah! The old days huh?
I'm not telling this story to garner sympathy; on the contrary I want to draw your minds to an experience, PROGRESS. Not just the casual kind but DELIBERATE, INTENTIONAL PROGRESS. When we finally got running water, it took planning and a whole lot of financial sacrifice especially because the house is a bit big and caters to others living in the compound. We didn't just wish the water to come, we made plans and sacrifices in other to see it happen. Now we can sit back especially on rainy days and remininsce about that part of our past.
Progress no matter how fullfilling will never come to be without deliberate intentional actions. It's a journey that requires you to actually make a step in the direction that you want to experience growth. It's amazing how people allow themselves continue year after year, without any form of growth; intellectually, financially, spiritually etc. That person you want to be, that business you want to grow, that relationship you want to build even the future you want, you will never get if you're not deliberate and intentional about it. Don't allow yourself to stay stagnant, let progress be the one constant in your life amongst others. Invest your time, your energy, your money, your prayers and every capital available to you to see that future you desire. Just like a tree, it's first a seed, then it grows roots. As you water it, stems begins to grow. With more care, branches are formed. Next thing you know, there are flowers. As you keep tending it, the fruits finally are formed. Your future will never happen without you being deliberate about it. You must keep tending to it till it grows and grows into the fullness you have always dreamed it to be. It's like a quote I read, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step."
I know you can do it!! I Believe in You!
